What a fabulous outcome from Zonta’s GRiTT- Girl What a fabulous outcome from Zonta’s GRiTT- Girls Rock it Tool & Trade event. Dean Lundie was working on his boat in Charleston and heard about GRiTT taking place at the Coos Bay Boat Building Center in Empire. Dean dropped by to investigate and was so excited about what he saw. Dean loves kids and 🚲 bikes. He loves to put the two together. Zonta members steered Dean to our club member Greg Dalton, Director of Coos & Curry CASA programs. They connected. This is the result of their meeting!!!! β€œI wanted to share a couple pictures from a donation of bikes we received for CASA. This donation came to us from a conversation that some of our Zontians had with Dean, who lives in Florence. He had all these bikes to give away. Our Zontians told them about our program and sent me Dean's contact info. I made the contact and drove to Florence today to receive a donation of over 20 new bikes to give out to kids in Coos and Curry Counties! 2021 Girls Rock it Tools and Trade is a wrap! This 2021 Girls Rock it Tools and Trade is a wrap! This week long day camp for girls taught basic carpentry skills to young girls and included lunch and snacks. Girls built a toolbox, a birdhouse and bat πŸ¦‡ boxes. We had a guest speaker each day. The girls learned fractions, carpentry terminology, and how to operate power tools. Girls were able to express their creative side with paint. Zonta Coos Bay Area received a grant from the Oregon Community Foundation to find the camp and the Coos Bay Boat Building Center provided the location. Richard Stillwagon from Oregon Coast Artisans Trade Education Collective was our lead instructor and ordered the supplies. Alternative Youth Activities provided two of our instructors as well as administrative support. We couldn’t have done this event without the help of our wonderful partners who all care about kids and creating strong women and future trades workers! Thank you!!!
